Mosquitoes love me! And so do chiggers, midges and spiders. And fire ants...yeah I once sat on an anthill when I was potting flowers, not a fun experience! This month marks my one year anniversary in Texas. My family moved here from a small house in California which had no space for a garden. Once we moved here we went all out and started our garden beds this Spring. Luckily we have had really nice neighbors and friends who have let us in on which natural insect repellen

Today is National Ice Cream Day! Here is a guest blog written by a participant of Celina Ladies and Friends, Lindsay Harper. Hope you all enjoy! What we experience through our senses can take us back to a great memory or tradition. For me, the sweet smell of fresh peaches takes me back to where I grew up. Our small farming community in Northern California was always full of hustle, tending to the crops that would feed others. There was nothing better than taking a moment t

The beginnings of going green

"Save the Earth...it's the only planet with chocolate..." Going green....sounds kinda scary and like it would take lots of changes and work, or so I thought. As I have young kids I am always thinking of their future. What will the planet be like for them? Will it be as beautiful as it is now if we continue going at this pace? All of these questions and many more that I will not get into have prompted me to make small changes in our family lifestyle. I grew up at a time wh

If you are proud to be a Texan...

If you are proud to be a Texan, you might know the significance of today. March 2 is Texas Independence Day! 182 years ago, 60 delegates met for a convention at Washington on the Brazos to declare their independence from Mexican forces.
