November is National Diabetes Month

Diabetes effects millions of Americans. This years focus is on gestational diabetes - a type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy. Most of the time gestational diabetes will go away after the baby is born but our children may have a higher risk of getting diabetes later on. Half of all woman who had gestational diabetes will go on to develop type 2 diabetes. Nearly 1 in 4 adults with diabetes are unaware that they have the disease. If you believe you may be in this group 1) Get tested within 12 wks after your baby is born and every 3 yrs after that and 2) talk to your doctor. According to the National Institute for Diabetes, diabetes effects over 30 million Americans.

Awareness is the key, the more you know, the healthier you can be!
